  1. Why did they march from Selma Alabama to Montgomery Alabama. what was the result of that.



  • On the first march they left with 600 people. They where not to far from where they wanted to go but then the cops attacked them with billy clubs and tear gas.


  • They where marching from Selma to Montgomery because they wanted to be able to vote.

  • On the third march was the only time they where successful. That march they where protected by the court. On the third march they left Selma with 3,200 and when they got to Montgomery they had 25,000 marchers.


  • The march lasted about 5 days, began on March 21, 1965. The march route was 54 miles long it was on U.S route 80, that route is know as the Jefferson Davis Highway. The march was protected by the Alabama National Guard, the U.S army, some FBI agents.

  • The result of the march was that the African American got there voting rights.
